The Mayans said it first, but
tea leaves said it second, her palm
said it third, and the boy
down the road, the one with the blue,
blue eyes, said it fourth.

The world was going to end and she
could not be happier.

Her affairs were easy to arrange:
money sealed into envelopes,
the microwave unplugged, and one
last kiss for the blue-eyed boy.

She called her mother,
and her mother did not answer.
(But she did not expect her to.)

That evening she hid beneath
a blanket with her dog and told stories
about the good times and the bad times
(but mostly the bad times, and how
now there would never have to be
bad times ever again).

Then she went to bed, heart lighter
than light, winged with hope,

and woke up crying.
i don't think everyone was relieved today.

They said it would be the end of the world

I was supposed to be out of town but I came home early
To find my home empty

Two hours of sobbing and unanswered phone calls later
He arrived home with another woman...

And my world ended.

It was supposed to be our first Christmas
The first Christmas of my life
(my father was a non-believer)
But that Christmas was the one that never came.

wow. this is beautifully written, especially for my current emotions. i can relate to it every other day, but not that night, because the 22nd is our anniversary and i wouldn't want to never wake to that day. but things are beautiful when you know it will all end one day.

I know some that devoutly wished for a release from here. I must say as life has turn up golden for me since Cathy that I don't want it to ever end....still trying to figure out how not to sleep to maximize the time :)...

Oh my gosh, I absolutely love this. My heart kind of dropped at the end, but it's so well written, and I've been sitting here reading it a few times!
Very nice job! ^^

...I never thought it was going to end. Not really. But, well, when you're laying awake at night, you think about all kinds of things.
Things like...
If they make me watch a movie of my life, I'm not sure I like this ending. I was hoping for more time, time to get past this dark spot and be a better person.
I've heard the idea that maybe we make our own paradise. Mine would have my family close, and my fictional crush real.
Then I though about that for a while. Meeting my love at the gates, holding him close and never wanting to let go. Having him giving me a tour of Heaven. Touching him, hugging him, enjoying the feeling of his skin on mine because he'd finally, finally, after pretending for so long, be physically there with me.
So, some tiny part of me figured maybe it wouldn't be so bad, if the impossible happened.

It is so melancholy, but hopefully...I know how it feels when you say "ok, I am better now" but fall back into it again...i cried a lot today about many things and I don't feel relieved...but just keep your head up and good moments will come as well!

huh, i guess the scientist were wrong again. The world didn't end...YET, be happy that your still alive, because you can still see the bright new day of tomorrow. And if you act like your going to die, then your already dead, be happy your alive because you may never know when the days will end and you also won't know when you will never see anyone again.

Be glad your still alive, If not, Then whats the point in living?

No scientists ever thought the world was going to end. The stories about asteroid/planet collisions were urban myths. There was no scientific basis in it at all--it was only an ignorant misreading of a cycle-change in the Mayan calendar combined with a bunch of chain letters and paranoia! :)

Wow, this poem is kind of sad : (

I see that a lot of you people are saying you wish the world would have ended so that it could start over. Here's the thing: What's stopping us from starting over or at least giving it a shot to start over? We're human, meaning we can think for ourselves.

We can still make this world beautiful, but it all starts with having a positive outlook FIRST. I love you guys.

That's really well captured, I couldn't agree more that many people can relate to this as well...
Today, our literature teacher said (while smiling) that she wouldn't mind it too much if the world ended. Many of my classmates showed surprised, or laughed, but I feel what she meant. It's not like I - and others thinking as I do - want the world's end, just... well, this world need some kind of purification, though not by killing.... but somehow....

Quite inspiring. Thank you.
